Andy Collen

Role Assurance Lead

DipHE MSc FC Para, Consultant Paramedic

Andy is a Consultant Paramedic at an NHS Ambulance Service, his role on the HPAC council is not linked, and undertaken in a personal professional capacity as a volunteer. He was recently seconded to the Healthcare Safety Investigation Branch (HSIB) as a National Investigator. The development of improvements in patient safety and the links this has with staff welfare is of great interest to him. He has a growing interest in connecting patient safety and leadership with end-use design and workforce empowerment.

Andy is the Medicines and Prescribing Project Lead for the College of Paramedics, having worked alongside NHS England on the proposal to introduce independent prescribing for advanced paramedics.

He has written and contributed to several publications relating to paramedic practice and am a visiting senior lecturer at the University of Surrey.
